Our Rates

Designated Driver Service:

The Pear offers Pittsburgh's safest and cheapest round-trip means of transportation for any night out on the town.

We charge a $25.00 fixed fee + $2.75 per mile.

(A slight surcharge may be added due to any pickup/drop off location(s) outside our standard serving area)

Personal Chauffeur Service:

The Pear charges $25 per hour for our personal chauffeur service. A minimum booking of 3 hours is required.

    *   Reserving a personal chauffeur driver typically requires 48 hours advance notice, so please plan ahead.

    *   Please allow time in your reservation for the trip home.

Rates Subject to Change

While most of our trips occur within a 10 mile radius of downtown Pittsburgh, we will drive our customers to any distance within reason. A surcharge will be added to trips with pick-ups and/or destinations outside of our normal service area.

Holiday/Event Rates will apply at our discretion on any Holiday/Event Date as needed to meet the increased demand.

We have one goal - to be Pittsburgh's premier designated driver service, providing a safe and friendly conclusion to any night out on the town. We'll drive you AND your vehicle home safely when you're unable to do so - it's as simple as that.

We are the Pear Transportation Company. We are adults who, just like you, enjoy having a good time. We also take pride in making responsible decisions.

Our company was founded by three friends who grew up together in this city. We understand its people, its areas, and its social scene. Most importantly, we understand the necessity for a designated driver service and the dangers of drunk driving.

Let's face it - Pittsburghers have a lot to celebrate. Unfortunately, Pittsburgh's transportation options are extremely limited. Taxi services are few and far between, and means of other public transportation are practically non-existent. That is where the Pear comes in.

We provide you the assurance of knowing that, regardless of the circumstances, you, your pals, and your vehicle will get home safely, without the burden of finding a ride, paying round-trip cab fare, or waiting around for public transportation. You have the freedom to drive yourself there; let us provide you the luxury of not having to worry about the trip home. Be a passenger in your own car. Play with the stereo or iPod. Laugh about the night's shenanigans. The rest is taken care of.

Our Services

Designated Driver Service:

  1. You make a reservation for a driver, either online or by phone at 412-324-8000.
  2. One of our drivers meets you at your automobile, obtains the keys, and transports you to your home or destination of choice.
  3. Upon delivery, our driver parks, turns off the vehicle and returns you your keys.
  4. One of our "runners" picks up our driver and returns him/her to base.
  5. Love that pear! It's that simple ;)

Personal Chauffeur Service:

  1. You make a reservation for a driver, either online or by phone at 412-324-8000.
  2. One of our drivers meets you at your home, obtains the keys, and transports you and guests to your destination(s) of choice during your reserved time frame.
  3. During any downtime, the driver will simply park your vehicle and wait for you nearby.
  4. Upon conclusion of the reservation*, the driver will chauffeur you and your car home, park, turn off the vehicle and return your keys.
  5. Our driver gets back in his/her vehicle, and we're on our way.

What We DON'T Do:

FAQ

1. I just completed an online reservation. Now what?
Within a few hours of your reservation submission, you will receive an email confirmation from us. This will include an estimated fare based on the pick-up and destination information provided.

On the night of your reservation, we will send you a text message, typically an hour before your specified pick-up time, to confirm that the time, location of pick-up, and destination(s) have not changed.

At the time of pick-up, our driver will ask you to sign a waiver (the same one posted on our Reservations page) and provide proof of auto insurance. Our driver will then drive you to your specified destination, and one of our "runners" will follow your vehicle to pick our driver up upon completion of the trip.

2. Why do you require credit cards for all reservations?
We are making a commitment to our customers to provide great and reliable service. In turn, we expect our customers to honor and fulfill their reservations. Having a credit card on file enables us to enforce our cancellation policy, but also allows us to easily charge fares and gratuity without hassle. Additionally, if customers' preferred payment method changes over the course of the night (i.e. customer wants to pay cash but doesn't have cash on hand), we can easily charge the credit card on file and email a copy of the receipt - no hassle!

3. Is my credit card information secure?
Absolutely! The Pear's secure server encrypts all submitted information. Our secure socket layer (SSL) software is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure commerce transactions. It encrypts all of your personal information including credit card number, name and address so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the internet.

4. How far in advance do I need to make a reservation?
We encourage our customers to make reservations as early as possible. Most of our customers make reservations the same day as they plan on going out, which is fine.

If you choose to make your reservation online, you can call us as the night progresses if you need to change the time or location of the pick-up.

5. What if I need to change the time or location of pick-up/delivery or cancel my reservation?
If you decide to change the time or location of your reservation or cancel your reservation, please give us a call at 412-324-8000, or shoot us an email at reservations@thepearcares.com with the details at least 2 hours prior to your scheduled pick-up. Cancellation of your reservation requires at least two hour's notice, and may be done via email, text message to your driver, or by calling and speaking with a representative or leaving a voicemail. Failure to give us at least two hour's notice will result in a $20 cancellation fee charged to your credit card.

6. What are your hours of operation?

7. How far will The Pear transport a customer?
While most of our trips are within Allegheny County, we will drive our customers to any distance within reason. A surcharge will be added to trips with pick-ups or destinations outside of our standard service area.

8. How many passengers can The Pear transport?
We will allow as many passengers as can legally fit into the vehicle.

9. Will The Pear make multiple destination trips?
Yes, The Pear makes multiple destination trips. The vehicle's owner must be the final stop on the trip, and fare will be quoted based on total mileage of the trip.

10. Is gratuity included in my quoted fare?
No, gratuity is not included in your quoted fare.

11. I've placed a reservation and provided my credit card information, but was told that you are completely booked for the night. Now what?
If any openings come available over the course of the evening, one of our drivers may reach out to determine if you're still interested in obtaining a designated driver. If not, The Pear will purge your reservation and credit card information, and no charge will appear on your credit card.

12. I tried to call to make a reservation (and perhaps left a message), but haven't heard back. What gives?
Because The Pear requires credit cards to hold all reservations regardless of our customer's preferred payment method, we require all reservations to be placed via our secure website's Reservations section. This allows us to obtain all the pertinent information we will need to quote and confirm your reservation. If we have additional questions, we will reach out to your via email or telephone to get clarification. Our office phone line and voicemail are used primarily for general questions or inquiries about our service, or for customers to leave reservation updates or cancellation details.

13. Is The Pear available for parties, weddings, special events, etc.?
Yes! The Pear is available for all occasions including weddings, parties, and special events. Please email us at pear@thepearcares.com or call 412-324-8000 to discuss rates for your next event.

14. How does this work with insurance, liability, etc.?
Our waiver provides all the pertinent information on these topics, and customer consent of this waiver is required before we will drive your vehicle. See our waiver, click here.

15. Are your drivers qualified?
All of our drivers are required to have valid auto insurance and pass both background and driving-record checks before they join our team. We have these results on file at our offices. None of our drivers have DUI's or criminal records.
